Last summer the Special Olympics Movement in Canada lost a great champion.
Jim Jordan's involvement with Special Olympics began in 1985 when Jim was hired as
Executive Director of Calgary ’86, the organizing committee for the Special Olympics Canada
Summer Games, which were held in the Stampede City in July 1986.
Following the Games, the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Ontario offered Jim the
position of Executive Director. Jim served this role with distinction, care and commitment until
October 1990, when he was appointed President of Special Olympics Canada, a position he
held for 15 years. Jim was convinced to delay his retirement in 2005 and take on the role of
President of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation until 2008.
He led the Movement through critical years of growth and challenge.
No one better understood nor articulated the essence of Special Olympics.
